Northeastern University

NU started in 1898 as the Evening Institute for Young Men ata YMCA facility, but in 1922 it was renamed Northeastern University and in 1948it separated itself completely from the YMCA and began admitting womenstudents. It is a large private, research institution and receives moreapplications annually than any other private university. Northeastern is knownfor having one of the first cooperative education programs in the nation thatallows students to alternate between study periods with real world experienceand internships, which has now grown to be one of the largest in the world.They also have a large focus on global learning and programs, offering manysemester and summer long programs as well as dual degrees from internationaluniversities and dozens of one month-long programs that travel to a variety ofcountries year round.  Despite its urban locationin the Fenway Cultural District, the campus still has a lot of natural and openspaces.
