UNT is the fourth largestuniversity in the state by enrollment, and you can choose from over 97bachelor's degrees, 88 master's degrees, and 40 doctoral degrees. Have you everwondered why the eagle is UNT's mascot? It was chosen in 1922 after a councildebate between student and faculty. The students demonstrated what they found mostimportant: individual liberty and freedom of expression. Shortly after thedebate, the American eagle was chosen to represent the future students of theuniversity. Through UNT's recycling efforts each year, approximately 20,000cubic feet of landfill space and more than 1,000,000 gallons of water are savedannually. The food at the dining halls is also something worth noting, becausemore than 1,426,000 meals are made from scratch by the UNT Dining Servicesevery year.
